What the Bible Says
   About Worrying

Are you a worrier?  Do you worry constantly about things you have no control over?

When Jesus was here on earth, he instructed us not to worry!  Of course, we all do worry at some point in our lives, but we need to remember that WE have NO control over ANYTHING.  In the end, worrying changes absolutely nothing.  What it does do is rob us of our joy!

In Matthew 6:27 and Luke 12:25, Jesus says, "Can any one of you by worrying add one cubit to his stature?"  Can worrying add a single hour to your life? Of course not, so why worry about things?  In Luke 12:30, Jesus said that worrying is something a Pagan (unbeliever) would do because they do not know God and they do not have His love and the assurances that He gives to those who put their faith in Him.  Christians should not worry because we do have God's love and His assurances that He will take care of us.

A person cannot worry and trust God at the same time.  Those two things are like oil and water, they do not mix!  Yes, not worrying is sometimes easier said than done.  We know we should not worry, and we know God is in control of everything, but we cannot seem to be able to STOP worrying.

To correct this worrying problem, we need to change our hearts.  We have to make a conscious effort to not let worry inch its ugly head into our minds.  Instead, when worry starts trying to creep in, we should stop right then and there and pray, and put our faith and trust in God, and believe that he will take care of our problem or situation, and leave our worries at His feet.

As Jesus said in Luke 12, if God takes care of feeding the birds and clothing the grass and flowers, do you not see that He will do that and more for His children?  So we must walk closely with God, and He will always be there for us to carry our burdens and take away our fears, worries and anxieties.   All we have to do is ask.

Famous quotes about worrying:

Erma Bombeck: "Worry is like a rocking chair; it gives you something to do, but never gets you  anywhere  .

Mark Twain:  "I have spent most of my life worrying about things that never happened."

Dalai Lama:  "If a problem is fixable, if a situation is that you can do something about it, then there is no need to worry.  If it is not fixable, then there no help in worrying.  There is no benefit in worrying whatsoever."

Prayer about worrying:

Dear Lord, sometimes I forget to come to you first and I let worry get the best of me.  Help me to remember that there is no point in my worrying, and that you are always here with me taking care of my needs just as you do the birds and flowers.  Help me not to worry about things, but instead help me to remember to come to you first before worry has a chance to take hold.  Help me to enjoy the things of today by not worrying about the things of tomorrow.  Help me to no longer be a worrier but instead be a warrior; and mainly, Lord, help me to trust in You.  In Jesus name, Amen.
